Best and Worst Mother and Daughter/Son Relationship

Tuesday, May 16, 2017

This week, in commemoration of Mother's day, I'm going to list books with both great and bad mother and child's relationship. Without further ado, here they are :

BEST

Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan
if you don't think Sally Jackson is the best mom ever i'll fight you. i mean, she literally married someone she dislike just to protect her son! i'm so glad she found happiness in the end because she deserves it.

The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare
not an actual mom but Charlotte Branwell is basically the mother of london institute's inhabitants. she loves them like her own child no matter how "bad" they are (*cough* will *cough).

It Started With Goodbye by Christina June
again not a mother but it's Tatum's step-grandmother. She's so cool and wise and understanding and will make you wish why can't you have a grandmother like that.

Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling
there are a lot of moms in this series but the one that i choose is none other than Molly Weasley! she's definitely not the perfect mom and has her own flaws, but she cares deeply for her children and Harry.

Gallagher Girls series by Ally Carter
i love the relationship between Cammie and her mother! they're not super close, but they care and love each other. there are ups and downs between them, which makes it more real.

WORST

Red Queen series by Victoria Aveyard
Elara (is the name right?) could won if there's a worst mom award. not only she's manipulative and just purely evil, she didn't hesitate to use her own son to make sure her plan goes well (i still believe Maven could be a much better person if his mom isn't Elara)

Geekerella by Ashley Poston
since this is a retelling of cinderella, of course the step-mother here is bad.

My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick
it's been so long since i read this book that i barely remember anything, but i do remember the mom here always judging people everywhere.

Fairest by Marissa Meyer
i know Levana isn't a mother but if she had any child i have no doubt she would be the worst mother ever.

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
i haven't actually read the book yet but i watch the tv show and i have to say that Justin's mom is the worst there. She literally abandon her son for her (cruel) boyfriend. There's one scene there between him and his mother that got me teared up (i'm sure you know which one if you've watch the show).

have you read any of these books? if so, do you agree? also recommend me some books with great family relationship since i haven't read many of those 😊

  2. Some of the worst parents I've ever read about are in The Glass Castle. Sadly, they are real.

  4. yay for charlotte! i love heeer. ugh, i love her husband too. i love both of them. wait, i think they're probably my most fave infernal devices characters (or not, because i stopped reading after the first book :P) but *cough* will *cough* <3

while i don't read percy jackson, i did watched it and i agree, sally is a cool mom.
as for molly weasley, she's a mothaeffin queen. remember that scene when she protected ginny and killed bellatrix? yeah. that.

i read 13 reasons why but i don't remember the book much. i DO remember the series and yes, justin's mom is a nope. maybe that's why justin behaves like a fuckboy (but no fuckboy will match bryce because he's the epitome of a disgusting bastard)

  5. Molly Weasley is a popular one this week! She is pretty great, even if I'm not a huge Harry Potter fan.

    My TTT.

  6. Justin's mom is so awful in the show. It was hard to feel bad for any of the characters in the book, but the show really did make you feel for these people, even if they did awful things. Except for Bryce. Screw him.

  10. YES TO ALL OF THESE! Molly Weasley is the ultimate fictional mother – she cares so deeply for her children and she adopts Harry as her own. I doubt that a list of fictional mothers could be complete without her. And yes to Sally Jackson as well – she's so selfless and wonderful. Thanks for sharing and, as always, fabulous post! <3
