#1 Check the Schedule
Usually, book cons are held for more than a day, and there's a specific time when an author is signing, when an ARCs or books are given, and when a panel is held. Try to make a list of which authors you want to meet and which books you want, and then make a schedule based on their time. Remember, book cons are usually a once-a-year-thing, so try to make the most out of it.
#2 Learn the Place
Book cons are huge. And there's a lot of people walking in every direction, so it's possible that you could get lost. Which is why I always try to study the floor plan, and memorize the place where the author's signing and book drops are held. Trust me, it saves a lot of time, and it saves you from exhaustion.
#3 Bring Water! And Snacks if Possible
Walking around for almost a day could be very exhausting, and while there's (almost) always a cafeteria nearby, you totally should bring water with you, at the very least. And if you're like me who would rather meeting author rather than queuing for food, bring snacks with you so you could walk while eating (of course, you can only bring snacks if permitted. Some cons didn't permit any food).
#4 Wear Comfortable Shirt and Shoes
Comfortable shoes is a must if you don't want to end up with scratched feet like me. There will be a lot of walking and (possibly) no sitting there. And wear shirts that will allow you to move comfortably.
#5 Bring Bag and Essentials
After going to book con, you'll most likely bring back a lot of books and bookish merch. Bringing bag is also a must, especially backpack. I made the mistake of bringing a slinging bag once, and I ended up with aching shoulder. You also should include essentials things in your bag, like medicine, purse, and power bank (guaranteed there will be no plug-in there lol).
#6 Rest
After a long day of walking, you should rest as much as you can for the next day, because somehow it's gonna be even more tiring! You wouldn't want to miss a day, because once again, it's not everyday you can attend a book con.
So that's it! It's pretty basic, but it should work for any convention you plan to attend. And if you plan to attend the Love N Books event in Vegas, do check out these Las Vegas travel deals for flight and hotel info. Good luck! 💙
Have you ever been to book con or book fair? If so, what is it? And if you have more advice on attending book con, do tell me in the comment ❤
These are some AWESOME tips Tiffany! Thanks for sharing - I'm definitely going to bookmark this so I can use it for whenever I go to a book convention. :)
