Do You Have Any Weird Reading Habit?

Thursday, June 18, 2015

Admit it, we all have a reading habit that looks weird for other people, but it's normal for us. For example, one of my friends like to reading while eating. Not many people do that (or is it just me who didn't?)

I do have a (probably super) weird reading habit, which is, before I start to read a book, I always go to the last chapter of said book and read how it end first.

Yes, I did that, and I don't even know why I did that. It's like some bad habits that I couldn't stop.

"But that's not fun! You already know how it end" You might be surprised to know that I'm not bothered at all. Yes, it ruin the "surprise" element (if the book has any), but I actually like it *another weirdness of mine*

Anyway, I tried to stop it once, and I manage to read a book without reading the last chapter first...for 10 chapters (hey, at least I tried). So yeah, I probably "keep" this weird reading habit forever.

Soo, that's my weird reading habit. Do you like to do that too? Or do you have any weird reading habit? Don's hesitate to share it!

  1. OH MY GOSH I DO THAT TOO. I like to go to the very last chapter of a book and read the last line because last lines are always beautiful and sad. It's something I always do before I start a book, and I know it's an awful habit. (I mean, i ended up spoiling myself in one book, lol.) But I LIKE DOING IT. :P Great post!

    1. YAY FINALLY THERE'S SOMEONE WHO DOING IT TOO! Don't worry, I always spoil myself everytime I read a book! I just can't read the last line only :D
      Thanks, Jillian!

  2. Well hey there fellow Indonesian blogger! Where do you live? I'm in Surabaya btw ^^

I know some people who like to do that as well (my friend only wants to read a book with happy ending) but to be honest, I'm silently judging you hahaha. That's okay though, everyone has their own reading quirks and the least we can do is tolerate each other.

Since English books are expensive here, I try to keep them as neat as possible so I don't fold the edge of the page to mark the last page I read. And I definitely don't highlight beautiful quotes >< I would rather write them down than ruin my book ><

    1. WAIT IS THIS REAL OMG I LIVE IN SURABAYA TOO! I'm pretty surprised when I read this since I never know a blogger from Surabaya :DD

I used to be like your friend (only read happy ending), but now, I didn't. In fact, I like sad ending books since they tend to be more beautiful lol. Me too! I never fold or write in books. I like to keep my books clean :)

Anyway, nice to know you, Kezia! We should chat more <33

  3. Honestly, I'm afraid of reading the last page because of possible spoilers. I tried it once and it sort of ruined the whole read for me LOL. But definitely no judgment here! In fact, MY weird reading habit is that I go on Tumblr to find some inspiration for my characters (does that make sense?). I usually do this for popular books just because I want a face in my head plus the edits are just so freaking awesome!

    1. Yeah, many people hate spoiler (which make me even weirder since I like it lol). Anyway, it makes sense! I used to be so active on tumblr that I even made some edits xD

  4. I only sometimes do that. It doesn't really make a difference what book it is, just sometimes I'm in the mood!! Also, with Heros of Olympus books I would look at who was narrating the last chapter...... That one spoiled me.......

  5. I used to flip to the last page and read the end. Now I don't. Not sure why... I don't like to crack the book ope really far on both sides because I don't want to damage the spine. Usually that's just for ARCs and PBs. For HCs I don't care. ooh I do take off the cover of HCs when I read them though. I DON'T WANT THEM TARNISHED. Sometimes I skip forward and fan the pages to see if anything happens when stuck at a slow part. Awesome post!

  6. Wow! I had a thing where for a while, if a book was too suspenseful i'd page through to see what happened and how it ended. But, I didn't really like doing that, so i've stopped.
I'm not sure about weird reading habits, though i'm sure I have plenty. I'm a mood reader, so if i'm in a contemporary mood I CAN'T read anything fantasy or dystopian. I'm not sure if that's weird or if that's normal, though.
Also, Tiffany, I love your blog and i've nominated you for the Liebster Award. I'd love to see your answers to the questions! You can check out the post on my blog for more info.

    1. I didn't like doing this either! But everytime I tried to stop, I can't, so I guess I'll have to "keep" it lol. Anyway, I'm a mood reader too, but if I'm in contemporary mood, I still can read fantasy or other genre :)
Thanks for the nomination, Olivia! I'll write it as soon as I can :D

  7. I’m too afraid to skip to the end. I don’t want to see spoilers. I think my only weird reading habit is my love of reading in bed. I don’t like reading anywhere except in my bed.

  8. I've done that before too, but I usually just skip ahead to the ends of chapters! It's horrible. :/ My reading habit is that I always have to be listening to music when I'm reading. It's weird, because I know some people say that makes it harder for them to concentrate!

    1. I know! I really want to stop this habit but it seems I can't :| Yeah, I try to listen to music while reading once, and I can't concentrate at all. Guess you have a good concentration :)

  9. Ahhh . . . that is crazy! I think I just died a little inside. Haha. I can't believe you read the ending. I just can't enjoy a book if I know the ending.

    1. Yes, that's why it's weird haha. It didn't really bother me to know the ending before finishing the book, though :)

  10. TIFFANY, YOU ARE MY NEW BOOKISH TWIN! XD If the book is a standalone (and is NOT a mystery or thriller--for those, I don't want to ruin the surprise), I normally read the first ten pages, the last two pages, then the rest of the book in the middle, haha. Especially if the book has a love triangle--I need to know if my ship will sink, because if does I'll chuck the book across the room. :)

    1. HI THERE TWIN xD You sure have some ritual there, Aimee! OMG yess I do that too! I see no point to read a book if my ship didn't even sail (unless the book is interesting) :D

  11. I COULD NOT DO THAT. I have to read from pg 1 till the end or my mind explodes into sadness. XD I'm a very linear person. But I don't read when I eat either *hi fives* I can't concentrate on either the reading OR the eating properly and it's not good. NOOOOT GOOD. hehe. I guess one of my weird reading habits is that I stop on specific page numbers instead of chapters. Like I'll aim for pg 100 and then just STOP no matter where it is in the chapter. XD

Thanks for stopping by @ Paper Fury!

    1. I didn't read when I'm eating either, mainly because I don't want my books to get dirty (you know, grease and all). Well, I never do that, but I guess if I do it, I think I'll end up finishing the book without reading the previous pages (I'm a very curious person xD)

  12. I DO THAT AS WELL although I have no idea why.. When I'm about to read a book, I usually check out the pages first.. then I start reading.. then check out random pages as I read (sometimes I come across spoilers sometimes not really).. then continue reading.. then I go check out the last couple of pages and read them (not really the entire chapter but still).. then continue reading as if nothing happened. hahaha.. I don't always do that but several times I've spoiled myself from reading the last couple of pages of books..

  13. I definitely don't go to the last chapter of the book but my weird habit is flicking to the end page and seeing what the page number is, so I know how short/long the book is and how far along I am lol!

    1. Me too! Well, not similar like that, but I do check out the percentage in my app to see how far I've read. This mostly happen when I'm stuck in a slow part :D

  14. NOOOO I could not do that!! That would take the fun out of it for me! Though I DO do what Jeann does- check what the last page number is! And never any food or drink around the pretties ;) I do always have the TV on, but always on mute- that's a little weird I guess! Very fun post!

    1. Well most people dont so I'm the weird one here haha. Yes food and drink are forbidden when I'm reading! I don't want to accidentally pour my drink to the book and ruin it. Well I never could turn on my TV even its muted, since I'll end up watching it xD

  15. Tiffany, I DO THIS TOO. Sometimes. I think it's naughty, and cheating, but sod that, where's the fun. It's good to know where it ends and seeing how you get from point a to point b. Yes, sometimes things get a little ruined, but it's more so I know what sort of cliff-hanger I'm on you know, if any? I remember snooping at Crown of Midnight a few months before I read and thinking 'wow, that ending looks painful, it'll probably hurt' and OHMYGOD IT HURT. You're not alone, I do it too. Great post! :D

    1. I'M GLAD THAT SOMEONE DO IT TOO xD I totally understand you! One of the reasons I do it is to "prepare" myself for some mean cliffhanger. I mean, I don't want to end up sobbing in public if the ending hurts :D And so far, it help! Thanks Amanda <3

  16. Gah that give me a twitch! I couldn't do that. I love to not know what's going to happen. I don't think I have any super weird habits besides I read on my phone a lot. Usually because I will read whenever I can and I always have my phone on me.
