Saturday, December 27, 2014
Title : The Blood of Olympus (Heroes of Olympus #5)
Author : Rick Riordan
Genre : YA fantasy
Release Date : October 7th, 2014
Publisher : Disney Hyperion

Though the Greek and Roman crewmembers of the Argo II have made progress in their many quests, they still seem no closer to defeating the earth mother, Gaea. Her giants have risen—all of them—and they're stronger than ever. They must be stopped before the Feast of Spes, when Gaea plans to have two demigods sacrificed in Athens. She needs their blood—the blood of Olympus—in order to wake.

The demigods are having more frequent visions of a terrible battle at Camp Half-Blood. The Roman legion from Camp Jupiter, led by Octavian, is almost within striking distance. Though it is tempting to take the Athena Parthenos to Athens to use as a secret weapon, the friends know that the huge statue belongs back on Long Island, where it "might" be able to stop a war between the two camps.

The Athena Parthenos will go west; the Argo II will go east. The gods, still suffering from multiple personality disorder, are useless. How can a handful of young demigods hope to persevere against Gaea's army of powerful giants? As dangerous as it is to head to Athens, they have no other option. They have sacrificed too much already. And if Gaea wakes, it is game over.

At first, I don't really like this series. I mean, new characters and Percy is missing as a start? Just no. But then, not long after that, I fell in love with this series. Not just because of the plots and the characters and the feels, but also because Rick's writing style. Rick's writing style is one of my fave. He always end every chapter with cliffhanger, so you can't help but keep reading. I've been following this series for around 3 years, so its hard to say goodbye to the seven and the others.

There's so much feels in this book that made me want to cry of happiness and sadness (thanks, Rick). Especially when its Leo's POV. There's this chapter, when the seven almost reach Athens, he talk to Festus about Argo II, how he made it months ago and now their journey is almost over. How it has been their home for months. I sob over that scene, because I feel like he's talking to me.

Personally, I think the characters really grew up since from they're start the journey. Frank, for example, is more mature and braver since he became the praetor in House of Hades. And Nico, he's not as reclusive as before. He even tell some of his deepest secrets to Reyna during their journey to bring Athena Parthenos to Camp Half-Blood. (And Nico finally found happiness with someone omg)

As usual, Percabeth is as cute as they ever be (Percabeth is my favesss). Jason-Piper and Hazel-Frank relationships are good too, especially toward the end. I just hope that we get to know Hazel-Frank relationship better, since they didn't get much spotlight here. Actually, relationship that stood out most is Reyna-Nico. As I said, Nico shared his deepest secrets to Reyna, and Reyna shared her's too (little spoiler here, Reyna told Nico about her past with her dad and her power). It is really obvious that now they knew each other better than anybody else.

Honestly, since this is the last book, I expect it to be the longest, not the shortest. But its okay since this book end well. But as always, Rick STILL end this book with a cliffhanger. Not the bad one though, but still it will make you wonder.

For those who haven't read this book or this series, I suggest you to read it immediately. I promise, you won't be disappointed!

  1. Yes, it's so typical of Rick to leave the book off with an open ending--which I really did love. It's a shame that there wasn't as much Percabeth, but their moments we still just as cute.

    Lovely review, Tiffany! <33
