Feyre is immortal.
After rescuing her lover Tamlin from a wicked Faerie Queen, she returns to the Spring Court possessing the powers of the High Fae. But Feyre cannot forget the terrible deeds she performed to save Tamlin's people - nor the bargain she made with Rhysand, High Lord of the feared Night Court.
As Feyre is drawn ever deeper into Rhysand's dark web of politics and passion, war is looming and an evil far greater than any queen threatens to destroy everything Feyre has fought for. She must confront her past, embrace her gifts and decide her fate.
She must surrender her heart to heal a world torn in two.

*The review is spoiler-free, but I've created a spoiler section below it since I need to talk about it
Was there any possibilities that I won't like this book? To be honest, I was afraid at first since I apparently suffer from second-book-syndrome (which means I tend to hate the second boiok ins a trilogy). But Sarah J. Maas, once again, manage to write such an amazing book. If I only have 1 sentence to describe this book, it'd be that A Court of Mist and Fury manages to exceed my unbelievably high expectations. I have so much to say about this book, but since I don't want to ruin anyone's fun, I'll keep this review simple and short.
Firstly, I want to talk about Feyre and her character development. If you've read the first chapter, you'd notice that Feyre suffers from PTSD after what she has done at Under the Mountain to save Prythian. I must say Sarah writes it beautifully, that it felt so real. It's as if I'm the one who suffers from it, and this come from a girl who has zero experience on PTSD. Also, Feyre character's development throughout the book is very realistic. Another characters that I want to talk about is Tamlin. You're probably wondering why there's a lot of Tamlin hate on the internet right now, and again, if you've read the first chapter, you'd notice that Tamlin did nothing while Feyre has nightmares and throw her guts up. He's no longer the sweet and caring Fae we knew from book one. Many people who have read this book and dislike it seems to dislike one thing in common--Tamlin's sudden characters change. But here's the thing--I don't think Tamlin changes that much. I think the demanding, uncaring trait are already there, but we didn't realize it because ACOTAR was told from Feyre's POV, and she was madly in love with him so his character is being romanticized. My point is, he's actually not that different from book one.
Of course, I couldn't write this review without mentioning our residents villain/precious sweethearts, Rhysand. I'm happy to say that we finally get to know the person behind his High Lord's mask, which we mostly saw on ACOTAR. And let me tell you, his real face is the one that made him suddenly won the hearts of hundred fangirls (including me). We also get to know not one, not two, but four new characters from the Night Court. Those 4 characters are just as awesome as Rhys, and I think you'll love them all.
The plot in ACOMAF is just as engaging as the one in ACOTAR. Eventhough this book is almost twice the size of ACOTAR, you won't feel bored at all because there's something new in each pages. Also, we've got to visit two new courts, and I really hope that we get to see more courts in book three.
Overall, A Court of Mist and Fury is an amazing and engaging sequel that you'll devour in no time and make you get a major book hangover. I really recommend you to read this (or start the series), and I definitely will read the third book!

- Okay but can we talk about Feyre and Rhys? I might be a huge Feyre/Tamlin shipper in book one but I immediately change my ships the moment Rhys interrupt the wedding. Their romance is so sweet and realistic and slow-burn, and I might be teared up a bit when Rhys told her that he already knew she was his mate since after Under the Mountain. Rhys might be not perfect, but he's still too good for this world.
- I also want to say that Velaris is awesome and I hope it's a real city because I really want to move there.
- Rhys' inner circle is literally a squad goal. Here we have a deadly Amren, looks-sweet-but-actually-not Mor (I'm really curious about her power though), quiet and loyal Azriel, and YOLO Cassian.
- I also want to talk about Lucien. He might do stupid things by staying loyal to Tamlin and didn't help Feyre, but I still didn't hate him. There's this one passage that made me really sad for him :"Thoughts slammed into me, images and memories, a pattern of thinking and feeling that was old, and clever, and sad, so endlessly sad and guilt-ridden, hopelessLucien, with all his wit and charm and jokes (which we saw in book one), turns out has thoughts as sad as those. We all knew that his father murdered the girl he loves while he's forced to watch hundred years ago, but I didn't think it affects him this badly. I think this is why he still stays loyal to Tamlin even after every bad things that he's done.
I absolutely loved this book! Feyre and Rhys are so perfect for each other and like I need the next book in my hands and it needs to be at least 800 pages. XD
ReplyDeleteYes me too! May 2017 couldn't come faster xD
DeleteI actually ended up enjoying ACOMAF. After all of the controversy I thought I wouldn't, at first I even thought I wouldn't. But as I read on I started to really enjoy it. Although admittedly I got bored quite a few times where there was way too much talking and not enough action or story...
ReplyDeleteI actually felt like the story took an absence around half way through this book because nothing was happening except Feyre having a mental breakdown about her feelings.
That ending though? So excited for the next book!
