GOODREADS

Injured and on the run, it has been seven days since June and Day barely escaped Los Angeles and the Republic with their lives. Day is believed dead having lost his own brother to an execution squad who thought they were assassinating him. June is now the Republic's most wanted traitor. Desperate for help, they turn to the Patriots - a vigilante rebel group sworn to bring down the Republic. But can they trust them or have they unwittingly become pawns in the most terrifying of political games?

When I first read this book, I'm half afraid that this book will disappoint me like Insurgent. Turns out, it didn't. In fact, I freakin love it!This book is about Day and June's journey after they escaped Day's execution. Later, The Patriots found and recruit them, and they have to do a job for The Patriots--kill the new Elector, Anden.

The plot might be simple, but its much more than that. We also get to know Day and June better, and get some about Day's past (there's also June's, but mostly Day). While I like both characters in Legend equally, I must say that I like June better in this book. I like how she became more mature in Prodigy, and how she deal with Metias' death. Its like she's progressing to be a better person. Of course I still like Day, but I don't really see major different from the first book.

There's also some characters that we get to know better--Anden and Tess. As I said, Anden is the new Elector, son of the previous Elector. When I first read about him, I know that he's nothing like his father. He's sweeter, nicer, and wants to change the Republic to be a better country. My point is, he's a likeable character, and I bet that you'll like this man too. I can't say the same for Tess, though. In the first book, she's like Prim from The Hunger Games--sweet and a paramedic. But in this book, I would like to scratch 'sweet' word. She often became jealous of Day's affection to June, and even make him choose between her and June, like seriously? It is a typical b*tch's words.

After read my ramble about the characters, you can see that beside the plot, Marie Lu's is focusing on characters' development. The romance in this book is very little--though Day's constantly in June's mind and the other way--you can count on one hand how many times a kiss happen. This book is one of the few books with almost no romance that I really like. I'd love to recommend it to everyone, even who's not a fan of dystopian (like me).

  1. I recently read Legend and now I really, really want to read Prodigy! I loved the characters and since I'm always up for character development and growth, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more of them. :) Great review!

    1. Yeah, I'm actually not a fan of dystopian books, but the Legend trilogy are exception. If you like Legend then I have a feeling you'll like Prodigy too :)
      Happy reading!
