What was once the western United States is now home to the Republic, a nation perpetually at war with its neighbors. Born into an elite family in one of the Republic's wealthiest districts, fifteen-year-old June is a prodigy being groomed for success in the Republic's highest military circles. Born into the slums, fifteen-year-old Day is the country's most wanted criminal. But his motives may not be as malicious as they seem.
From very different worlds, June and Day have no reason to cross paths - until the day June's brother, Metias, is murdered and Day becomes the prime suspect. Caught in the ultimate game of cat and mouse, Day is in a race for his family's survival, while June seeks to avenge Metias's death. But in a shocking turn of events, the two uncover the truth of what has really brought them together, and the sinister lengths their country will go to keep its secrets.

I admit here that dystopian isn't my fav genre. Oftentimes, book with dystopian genre really disappoint me. But maybe, this book could change my opinion. My friend recommend it to me once, and I'm glad I actually hear her opinion this time.
Legend was set in Los Angeles, 2130. While usually the setting was after the war (like The Hunger Games or Divergent), Legend was set in the war, so thats one of the reason I read this book.
This book has two POVs. The first POVs belongs to June Iparis. She's the only person known who get a perfect score. That's it, until her brother Metias was killed, and she decide to hunt down her brother's killer. The suspect is Day, the Republic number 1 criminal. But when she finally found Day, she found out that maybe her brother's killer isn't Day, but the Republic itself.
Personally, I think that Day and June are very alike. They both genius, and they have the same way of thinking. The only difference is they have a very different background. June came from a wealthy family, who has a nice apartment and much money, while Day has been living in the street for the last 5 years since he failed the test and start become the Republic criminal. But other than that, they're basically the same.
Since the very beginning, I already ship Day and June. But actually, the romance isn't the main spotlight. The reasons--beside both the MC are still 15--I think, because they have a different background, so it kinda hard to form a relationship when June is often supervised by her captain, and everyone is looking for Day. But that didn't bugging me like I expect before, because I find it completely reasonable.
The only flaw I found from this book, is when June suddenly could eat food from garbage when she's on mission to find Day, while everyday she eat a proper food. I kinda find it unrealistic. Also, I didn't see the point of switching POV since they have the same way of thinking. But other that that, this book is perfect! I highly recommend this book to everyone, I promise it's worth it!

I've heard so much about this series and I definitely have to try to read it by the end of this year because I'm starting to feel out of the loop! I must meet this Day and June. I'm no dystopian fan either but hey, there are exceptions :)
ReplyDeleteLovely review, Tiffany! <33
I wont read this book either if my friends didn't convince me, but you're right, you have to read it! I have a feeling that you'll like it too. This book is definitely an exception for me (:
DeleteThank you Melanie <3
I actually haven't read any of her books yet! I was thinking of starting Legend over The Young Elites, but I have no idea when I would get to it. I'm glad you enjoyed the book!!! Will you be continuing on with the series?
